Backup Outlook Express on ME to use on XP
Walter Cohen wrote:
I will be loading a new computer with Windows XP soon. I now have Windows Me and I'd like to know if there's some easy way to backup/copy all of my Outlook Express folders/settings/phone book/contacts/messages/etc and, after I load XP, just restore them to use with XP. Is there a utility that can do this easily? http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx http://www.inachis.com/products/index.htm -- http://www.bootdisk.com/ |

....
FAST says it migrates files and settings - it will not actually migrate the application though, correct? I'd need to install the application again on XP and then import the settings? Thanks, Walleye .... If you will run WinXP setup right from Win9x, your OE settings will be caught up... but I advice you setup WinXP to other disk or folder, otherwise you will lost about 1G of disk space (in unnecessary old Win9x depended files). If you will move OE data to other instance of Windows don't forget about registry data (Accounts, Message Rules, Signatures, Blocked senders lists) and other important data (Internet Favorites, Signatures in files, Stationery, and so on.) Advertising here Try our ABF Outlook Express Backup (www.oebackup.com), it does everything I've noted above. : snip The Files and Settings Transfer wizard will do this and more, see the link below. Excellent illustrated article on Files And Settings Transfer Wizard by MS-MVP Gary Woodruff. http://www.aumha.org/a/fast.htm -- Michael Stevens MS-MVP XP http://michaelstevenstech.com Is there anything that the "FAST" can't transfer??? Other than the operating system itself ;-) Oh, and how big is an average transfer file? Does it fit on a single CD-R/RW (650MB)? -- Monty Barker, who's gonna use it when he upgrades to XP My website: http://home.earthlink.net/~ourcozylittlenest (Now with a search engine and a new navigational sidebar!) It can transfer just about anything, since you can explicitly include files
that it would otherwise exclude. There's no "average" size, since the size will depend on what you transfer and how many of them you have. I have, for example, 4.6gb of movie and music files that FAST would transfer ... if I were silly enough to let it. :-) -- Richard G.
