desktop icons

since installing XP SP1 on my laptop the desktop icons
keep refreshing when I open Windows Explorer (and the
icons in explorer also refresh) until I select a folder
in explorer. Doing a system restore ends the problem but
leaves my system with no SP1 or critical updates etc
