Default No sound from speakers after XP upgrade

I am at a loss as to how to restore sound to my speakers
after upgrading to Windows XP from Windows Me.

The speakers were working before the upgrade.

The speakers are connected.

When I go to the control panels sound, volume the display
says "no audio device".Mute all is not selected.

The device (sound card) says MPU-401 compatible MIDI device
properties says the device is working properly.

Also says under driver properties, for the current driver,
the driver is enabled.

I have unchecked the box regarding the copy protect.

I think I need to install a new driver for the sound card.
When I go to the Microsoft site for an update of the
driver for windows XP it says I have the most up-to-date
driver.

any one have any advice?

Check the manufacturer's WEBsite. But first...
