Default Show Hidden Files Problem

Hi all,
For some reason, I can no longer enable the option Show Hidden Files and
Folders under Folder Options-View. Checking the radio button does not make
any difference. The system always goes back to the default Do Not Show
Hidden Files and Folders. As a result, I could not access my "Local
Settings" directory and all the sub folders.
I am logged as administrator.
Anyone know an answer to this problem.
Thanks
Martyn
