Default Appletalk, can't install PC MacLan

I'd like to connect to an OS X fileserver with Appletalk (only
posibility because it's not my server) from my WinXP computer.

I've got problems installing PC MacLan - installation hangs and doesn't
finish. After restarting my computer, there's an Apple-Talk-Protocol
under my LAN-connection but it doesn't work and the unfinished
installation seems to slow down my system.

Any idea how to solve this problem, are there any common problems
installing PC MacLan on WinXP? Is there an alternativ program for PC MacLan?

Thanks, Renato
