Java Virtual Machine

I am getting error messages when trying to update the java
virtual machine. Certain web site functions will not work
with out this plugin. Whe I do the Windows Update, it
tells me I need to install it before I can update it. How
can I do a first install of JVM? I've gone through 4
Knowledge Base articles for this problem and still can't
get it working.
