does any body know why?

why do i have more than one connection in the internet
connections though i only use one of them. for example i
have a local area connection 'fast ethernet' which is
disabled ( it has an X) and a local area connection 'WAN
network drive' which is enabled. and a bridge connection
which is a combination of the previous connections

how can i enable the first connection? what is the
difference between them?
