Default Frequent lock ups in XP

I have a Sony laptop that came loaded with XP Home.
After having a software issue Microsoft advised my to
reformat my hard drive which I did. I also had to
purchase a fresh Windows XP version to load (more my
option) than the OEM. My laptop locks up - freezes -
about once a day. I cannot reboot. I have to reset the
computer.

I have PC-cillin 2003 loaded and have asked them if this
could pose a problem but can not get a response. I don't
have any exotic programs loaded. I have 512MG ram and
AMD 1 GHz processor and have no other problems.

Any ideas out there??
