Default Critical update 811493 prevents reboot

I installed this critical update from Microsoft and the computer won't
reboot during the restart. Why is this happening??

Probably a bad download - it is a fairly simple update though one with a
serous fault so i'd suggest leaving it anyway. See if you can get the
menu by hitting F8 as BIOS info goes to black screen, and so to Safe
Mode - there take the option for System Restore to the previous day's
restore point

It's probably not a wrong download. I have the same problem. After
uninstalling the Q811493 the system restarts on reboot and never starts
Windows XP. I have the same problem with the Q328310 update.
