Default XP pro adding to 2kpro network - - I just don't get it

1. without netbeui, can you ping each other? if not, you need to fix tcp/ip
settings.
2. you need to focus on 2nd xp. I wish you gave me the system error #. I am
assuming you gat system error 6118. here is quoted from
http://www25.brinkster.com/ChicagoTech

System error 6118 has occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently available
SYMPTOMS: 1) After enabling ICS/ICF, you can't see any computes on My
Network places. If you try, you may get "workgroup is not accessible". 2) If
you use the net view command, you may receive "System error 6118 has
occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available." message.
Resolutions:
1) This behavior can occur if you enable the ICF that will closes the ports
for file sharing by default. To open these ports, right-click the network
connection that is firewall protected PropertiesAdvancedSettingsService
TabAdd, Enter 127.0.0.1) for the required Internet Protocol (IP) number.
Enter UDP ports from 135 through 139, and TCP ports from 135 through 139 one
by one (the external and internal port numbers should be identical).
2) This may occur if the workgroup name and the domain name are the
different.
3) No master browser. Starting Computer Browser Service on one of w2k/xp
computers should fix the problem

1. netbeui disable - - now- none of the Win2K machines can see each other
2. Yes - I can ping the other two computers from the XP computer
3. below:
one 2K machine - sees only itself
one 2K machine says "List of servers for this workgroup is currently
unavalable" - - it's the one with the Lan card for the cable internet
connection - it's also the one with the shared printer.
on the XP machine - it also gives the error above.

What am I missing?

1. use tcp/ip only and don't use netbeui.
2. can you ping other computer from the xp by ip and name.
3. use net view command to list all shared computers. post back with the
result.

I think I've read every post possible on this subject, and I've been

to
tons
of web sites posted, but I still can't get it working. I can get

close - - -
here's what I'm trying to do...

Existing network (using WORKGROUP as workgroup) with two Win2K Pro

machines
(Router - DHCP working) - - they do file & print sharing perfectly,

though
I
had to add NetBeui to both to get it to work. - Cable modem - shared

printer
and internet connection on one 2K Pro machine

I got a laptop (XP pro) that I'm trying to add in - so that I can

print
to
the existing printer on a 2K machine - - and see shared files from any

of
the computers.

It's apparently sharing the internet connection just fine...just

nothing
else.

ICF on XP machine TURNED OFF

I can't get \\machinename to work from any of the machines

The very best I've been able to get is using ipconfig/renew at certain
points on the 2K machines - - then I could at least see all the

computers
from each of them - - but I could never get file/print sharing going -

I've
got the user names added in on each machine as Administrators.

I've tried so many combinations (recommendations from other web sites)

that
now I don't even know how I got that far, since now - I can't even get

the
XP machin to recognize the WorkGroup - it sees the Workgroup, then it

says
it's not accessible and that a list of servers is not currently

available.

Is there a one-stop, simple set of instructions that I can follow to

get
this done? I never ever had as much problems getting my 2K machines

talking
to each other.
