Default Uninstalling Internet Gateway?

On shutdown -- one gets a "program is not responding"
dialog. It occasionally freezes at other times (eg you
can't disable, but no popup "non-responding" dialog)
The other sign of problems was that the internet
connection seemed really balky on this computer, but
worked ok on the XP computer which is connected wirelessly
to the linksys router that this computer connects to
through a LAN cable.

I tried your fix -- I have removed only icsdlt.dll --
not ssdpsrv.exe, as yet -- and so far all seems to be
fine. Thanks again. As a suggestion -- maybe a note in
the XP networking wizard when applied to downward
compatibility? Only searching the whole computer for the
words "internet gateway" indicated the ICS link -- I
actually read ALL the documentation and searched the
knowledge base before trying you.
Its one of the truly amazing things about the internet,
that people give of their expertise, in these odd mixtures
of 'for profit'/volunteer and hobbyist enterprises, and
the whole thing just works. Much appreciated. Thanks
again, J

Removing the icsdclt.dll key will stop the Internet

Gateway client app from
running. You may also want to remove UPnP as Steve

suggest as it may be
that that is causing the hang on shutdown.

Out of curiousity, can you describe the hang? Does the

computer freeze or
do you get a "program is not responding" dialog.

Thanks very much to Mr. Wickes and Mr. Winograd
I appreciate your assistance -- particularly given your
expertise. Now -- any thoughts on which of these two I
should try first? (ie uninstall the universal plug and
play or editing the registry by hand)?
Again, thanks for your suggestions.

Just remove the entry from your

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersi
on\Run regkey.
It's the one with rundll32 icsdclt.dll in it. If there

is an entry for
ssdpsrv.exe you will probably want to remove that as

well.

Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the "Internet
Gateway" which has been installed, unwanted, on my
Windows 98 computer by the Windows XP network setup
feature?
I was trying to set up a home network with XP on one
computer and 98 (2nd edition) on the other. I set

the
network up on the XP computer and, as instructed,

used
the XP CD on the 98 computer. (I use a wireless hub
connected to a cable modem -- directly connected to

the
98 computer -- network cable -- and wirelessly

connected
to the XP computer)
Somehow the thing installed an Internet Gateway (is

this
XP's version of Internet Connection Sharing?) which

is
making my system hang when I shut down. I don't need

it -
- can connect fine to the net without it, when it is
disabled etc. but I can't uninstall it. Tried
reinstalling 98's Internet Connection Sharing and

then
uninstalling -- that didn't work.
Any hints?

Default Uninstalling Internet Gateway?

I'm having a similar problem, but on XP Home. I
accidentally installed the Internet Gateway, and it will
not disable or allow me to trash it. I looked in the
registry for the icsdlt.dll key but did not find it in the
location you advised for Win98. Can you help?

Thanks,

Dave
