Default XP Home Networking headache

Rob,

Are you aware that we are talking about XP Home which
does not have all the bells and whistles that XP pro
has. For example I can assign permissions with XP pro
but I can't seem to do that with XP Home

I think you are both wrong. I know what you guys are
thinking of though. It is the permissions tab, and its
easy to get to.
1. Right click on the folder you want to share.
2. Click Properties, then on the security tab.

There is no Security tab, only a General tab.

If you
click Advanced you can go in and fine tune the
permissions.

Advanced does not give you any choices for permision,
only archiving, fast searching and compression.

Wish it were so easy. He did mention that sharing is
turned on for both. I have almost the same problem and
have spent the entire day trying to figure this out. I
even got it to work but just one way. I can see all my
desktop files on the laptop but not vice versa.

I think Charlie is right.WE need to find where to give
permission for a higher level of sharing.

Ok man, not to make you look like a total moron. Now

that
you have it configured correctly (which you do)its is

a
simple matter of designating which files and folders

you
want to share.
1. Open "My Computer".
2. Right click on the drive(s) that you want to share.
3. Selet "Sharing" off of the menu that pops down.
4. Name the drive and hit ok and it'll have a little

hand
under the drive icon if you did it right signifying

that
the folder or drive is a shared one.
5. Do it to the other computer and everything should

be
hunky-dory.

Hopefully, I have a standard XP networking issue. I

have
two XP Home machines, desktop and laptop, connected

to
a
LAN via a router that came with the DSL package.

They
can
ping each other. Their icons show up in Network
Neighborhood. Sharing is turned on for both, files

from
both and a printer from the desktop. Client for MS
Networks is checked for both. Both must be logged in

with
a password. Both have guest accounts turned on. But

alas
the shared resources are not accessible. The error
message says that "... is not accessible. You might

not
have permission to use this network resource..." How

do
I
grant permissions? I have been told that the problem

can
be resolved by removing "Simple File Sharing" but I

can't
find the control panel for this. It's not in the

Tools -
-
Folder Options -- View panel. Is it in the User
Accounts control panel? I'm looking for the same

tool
that was once under "Manage" in Win2k. It gave fine
grained control to

added "users", "everyone", "guests",
etc. Please help.
