file sharing with a 98 client in XP pro "Unknown error 31"
Try implementing IPX/SPX with NetBios as a protocol on
both machines... This solved the exact issue on my network. -----Original Message----- This is a home network 98 desktop and XP laptop. I am trying to map a drive from a 98 client to a XP pro client (server) in a peer-to-peer environment. I can see the XP client in network neighborhood from the 98 system, but when I try to connect I get an "Unknown error 31" message. On the XP client I have shared the folder "My Documents" given the appropriate permissions (full control), even created a user account that has the same user name as the 98 client, because 98 doesn't seem to allow for authenticating as a different user, and still nothing. I have tried mapping the drive direct using the computer name and share as well as the domain name.did I mention the XP is part of a different domain? Don't tell me this is a "can't see an NTFS partition from a 98 client"...if that's the case how does a 98 client connect to any file server with NTFS? I know I'm going to kick myself, as it's probably something that I'm just over looking? . |
