Default Itty bitty problem

From time to time Explorer crashes with this error.

Explorer.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x77f57d85" referenced memory at "0x001b0000" The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program

Have run memory tests and all appears OK. It seems to happen when a program like PSP or Paint is closed but that could be coincidence.
XP Pro, 512Mb. 80G, 30G and 15G hard drives, CDRW and CD reader.
All drivers up to date for monitor, scanner printer etc.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
