I am using VLC 2.0.3 Twoflower on Win 7 64b Pro. Never seen any
problem.
I would suggest reinstalling VLC. Are you using the 32 or 64b
version?
Here are the 64b versions:
http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...lc/last/win64/
I see the most recent is 2.1.3.

The version I used was a 32b version.
I just uninstalled this one and installed the newest 64b version 2.1.3
Rincewind.
I checked out various types of films but haven't seen any problems.

The latest version is 2.1.4.

The latest 64b version is 2.1.3

Believe me or don't. Here's a screenshot taken a few minutes ago on my
computer.

Well, I believe you. Here is my screenshot:
www.pc3.nl/temp/vlc.jpg
Just downloaded it from the VLC site as mentioned above.
Where did you get your version? Is it 32 or 64b?

It's 64 bit. VLC offered it as an update a couple? of weeks ago. Said
it was a minor update.

I've got 2.1.4 from somewhere on the Videolan site, but the latest one
at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html or in
http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...lc/last/win64/ is 2.1.3. I'm
wondering whether they released 2.1.4 and then withdrew it again.

http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/2.1.4/

I understood 2.1.4 was a security fix applicable only to the 64 bit
versions (macosx and win64).

Thanks. Strangely enough the site doesn't lead you to the download
directory of 2.1.4.

The site doesn't lead you to this directory. But Brian Gregory already
pointed to this download directory.

No. All the links that I can find on www.videolan.org mention or take you to
download folders for 2.1.3.

There is a big button "Download VLC" which gives you VLC 2.1.3 for 32-bit.
Below that is a link "Other Systems" which, via the "Get VLC for Windows"
link takes you to another VLC 2.1.3 page with a link to the 64-bit version -
and that is at http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...lc/last/win64/
which is 2.1.3.

If you *know* about their download folder structure you can find
http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...lc/2.1.4/win64 by navigating up
the tree to http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/ and looking at
what folders are below there.

But 2.1.4 seems to be a very well-kept secret, for some reason.

I'm pretty sure that when I had 2.1.3 win64 installed check for updates
directed me to 2.1.4 win64.

Launch a video from where? If you're streaming
something it may not be streaming fast enough.
In that case, you might try running the video
locally, if possible. (Extensions like DownloadHelper
will allow you to download actual Youtube videos,
for instance, so that you have a copy to run locally.)

I've used VLC for a long time and have always
found it flawless, but I don't demand much from
it. I've never tried to play a movie DVD or stream
from Netflix. I don't stream anything. I just
occasionally download Youtube files or lectures.

Yep.
Put
http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/

in your favorites and check it every now and then if you are
into the "latest and best" (applies to the backdoors too).

Joke. I trust VLC more than the OS.

I use VLC exclusively, and I have never seen that phenomenon.

Sorry, I don't know enough about its innards to offer you any useful
advice.

It's a factor of the video card and possibly the CPU,
from what I've seen.

My 5 year old laptop will play .avi files just fine,
but chokes on newer codecs occasionally, especially if anything
else is happening, like Agent DLing at the same time.

AVI is a container, the video in it can use any codec up the and
including the newest of new.

Hi Stan,

Baroquey s***? Not very creative. I called it Organ Grinder
Music, monkey and all. Now that is funny!

I steamed from various PBS stations. Didn't care for it.
Don't remember which ones.

But, if you like Baroque, take a trip over to

http://www.abacus.fm/vivaldi.html
http://www.abacus.fm/bach.html

Remember to tip the monkey with the cup! :-)
(I think I am funny.)

You and Stan should check out Pandora radio, www.pandora.com. I used to
stream stations using iTunes until I found Pandora. Extremely
customizable in the type of music you prefer.
