Stop Messenger on start-up
Can anyone tell me what to do with my settings to prevent windows
(live)messenger loading every time I start up the computer? When I uncheck it in the msconfig start-up list, it only works one time..on the next restart. If possible, I would like to have it never load on start-up. Thanks |

Stop Messenger on start-up
Greetings Jack,
MSConfig does not remove startup entries, it merely tries to disable them. So for a number of applications, including Messenger, this will do nothing. I'd certainly recommend you use a better and more comprehensive tool like Autoruns: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx However, to prevent Messenger from starting up with Windows, all you need to do is open up Messenger, press the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menu bar, choose the Tools menu, then Options, choose the Sign In category and uncheck 'Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows' and choose OK. It won't bother you again. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Jack" wrote in message ...
