Default Icons come, and icons go

I have my msconfig pretty much the way I want it, and when I start up
Windows XP SP2, all my startup processes run as expected, but a couple of the
icons sometimes show, and sometimes do not show in the taskbar on the lower
right of my screen. I can kill the involved processes, and restart the apps,
and the icons appear. Annoying, but is there a simple way to make them more
predictable? Thanks in advance for any help.

Why don't my Notification Area icons show or why do they disappear?'

I don't know if you tried this but worth a try;
.... Right click the Start Button and select properties
.... On the Taskbar and Start Menu properties click on taskbar Tab.
.... Then opposite this check box:
[ ] Hide inactive icons click on [ Customize..]
There make sure the icon(s) you want is set to always show, how:
Highlight the Icon by clicking on it and select "Always Show" from the drop
down menu, does this help?.
It will be handy if you told us what processes are you killing and does your
computer clean from malwares and viruses and you run a scan on regular bases?.
Let us know.

nass,

I appreciate the tip, and I am in the process of trying your method. I'll
keep you informed. As to the questions you asked, the two most troublesom
processes seem to be my Creative Volume Control, or CTSysVol.exe, and FreeRam
XP Pro. Oh, and yes I do virus scans and malware scans regularly. I have
ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite installed. Thanks.
