Default Firefox 76.0.1 Bookmarks are Where?

Windows 10, 1909.

I give up. Where are the bookmarks located for Firefox 76.0.1?

They are not he
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ Profiles\l2trwu70.default

Or any where else I can see. Or anywhere that searches send me.

about:config is of no help

(In File Explorer, the Favorites folder, located in C:\Users\Username,
contains favorites for Internet Explorer.)

Open aboutrofiles.
This will tell you where your "root" profile folder is.
Click the 'open directory' button. Bookmarks are places.sqlite and a companion option favicons.sqlite file. The favicons.sqlite file
is simple all those cute icons in the bookmarks.

Oh, and by the way, this is the same place it's been since ... well almost forever.

In your profiles folder, except they are in a sqlite file, which makes
them 'unrecognizable'.

One way to open the profiles directory from within Ffx is hamburger
icon/ Help/ Troubleshooting/ (6th item down Profile directory)/ Open
directory

Then, there is a places.sqlite file in there which contains all kinds of
things in that format.

That doesn't 'directly' help you very much if you want a recognizable
bookmarks file.

You can backup your bookmarks as a .json file, or you can export your
bookmarks as an html file using the Bookmarks menu (if you have a menu
bar). If you don't have a menu bar, you can use your hamburger again
for its Library/ Bookmarks/ Show all book marks - then use its Import
and Backup function.

sqlite stuff used to make me crazy because I wanted to look into it in a
'simple' fashion.

The .json file is useful for restoring firefox bookmarks by restoring a
backup .json.

Normally, you start by turning on the Menu bar. Right-click the title bar
area, keep poking around until you get a context menu, then turn on the
Menu bar with File/Edit/View/History/Bookmarks words in its bar.

Now, in the Bookmarks menu, is Show All Bookmarks, brings
up a Library sub-panel. Import and Backup has an Export
option hiding inside. (If it was the old days, there'd be a Bookmark
Manager, but that would be too easy of a concept.)

Whew! At this point, I'd be taking a nap from all the excitement.

The Export option, should prompt for a place to store Bookmarks.html .
And we hid Export in "Import and Backup", like it was an Easter Egg.
No one would suspect...

And that's a file "humans" can use, the Bookmarks.html .

The above info was collected from a 52.9ESR I have in a Win10 VM.
YMMV etc. No matter where they hid it, there should still be an
Export option in there somewhere.

Don't forget to pack a picnic lunch before heading off
on your Export Adventure. We couldn't just have the file
sitting there, for every tom, dick, or harry to get at,
now could we. Yes, bits of it are in sqlite files, in
backups as jsonlz4 files and so on. Great. The check is in
the mail.

Just as to get a WindowsUpdate.log file, we have to
"execute Get-WindowsUpdateLog" or some similar baloney.
Another check in the mail.

Been there, and you're right. Not much help.

Thanks. I imported (Show all bookmarks) to Internet Explorer as an
experiment. What showed up in IE Favorites was a 'bookmarks.html' file.
When I click on it, all of the bookmarks from Firefox are listed within
each folder as they were in Firefox. If I then right click on each link, I
can 'Add to favorites' in IE. I have to make a folder, first, if desired.
It's a long process, but it works.

sqlite stuff used to make me crazy because I wanted to look into it in a
'simple' fashion.

The .json file is useful for restoring firefox bookmarks by restoring a
backup .json.

Thanks.

I've been using different browsers for different things. I've always
found Firefox's bookmarking system somewhat cumbersome, so I thought I'd
copy all of the bookmarks I've collected there to a 'Favorites' type
folder. But, noooooooooooooooo...
Anyway, after finding the hidden 'Import and Backup', I exported the
bookmarks as an html file.

What a PITA, and unintuitive. And then there's the bookmark situation
with Edge, too, which looks similar. I was hoping it used a Favorites
folder.

It all *used* to make sense/be easier for us average Joes. But, we can't
give up, otherwise we're at the mercy of the Geek Squad and the like.

Sure you can, favicons probably will display as hex blobs, rather than
images

Using:

sqlite3 favicons.sqlite .dump output.txt

I can get the contents just as easily as with the browser,
and an added benefit is I have .vacuum if I need it.

'Using optical scanners with Linux. This tutorial also covers some of the
pitfalls users may experience.',NULL,25);

Presumably that's enough for a bookmark.

One thing I can't figure out, is how the moz_places uses "25" to reference
the moz_origins, but then there's no "45" in moz_places, to have a
relation to the other database and its favicon "45".

As for the icon format, 8950 4e47 0d0a 1a0a and Google says it's the
magic number for "PNG". ASCII \x89PNG\r\n\x1a\n

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...format-is-this

So I need to make hex to binary of that blob now. I pasted the blob
into HxD and saved it out as binary from there. The result is a 16x16
Penguin icon. For once, I didn't even write a program or script.

In about:Config set browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to true and then
whenever FF shuts down it will generate a current Bookmarks.html file in
your profile folder. You must shut down FF and restart it for this to
take effect.

Firefox has switched to using SQLite to store everything. You can still
use about:config parameters to create bookmarks.html, like others said.

m'zine kb "Places.sqlite is used in Firefox 3 and above," (2008)

Moz dev/s have been enamored of sqlite for a long time.

Also useful ref wp article on early v/s of ffx. "a new "Places" system
for storing bookmarks and history, "
