Latest version of Java VM failed to install
Apologies if I have posted this to the wrong group. I clicked on "Windows
Update" and as usual the update page loaded up to which I clicked on the "Scan my computer" link to search for updated files. Only one security update was displayed to which I clicked on "install". This was the latest Microsoft Java Virtual Machine update (version 3810). But however on the download page nothing happened. I tried this a few times but the install failed. Has anyone come across this problem with their version of Windows XP? I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1 updates and all other updates prior to this update installed. And finally how can I install the Java VM update if it does not download from the windows update page?] Thanks. |

Latest version of Java VM failed to install
Bearing in mind the advice given in the previous post, you can download the update(without install) using the "Windows Update
Catalog" option on the "Windows Update" page and doing an "Advanced Search" for the keywords "virtual machine" Regards, Len "Jupiter Jones" wrote in message ... You should be able to install the update after you install Microsoft VM: Microsoft is removing Microsoft Virtual Machine from its websites and stopping distribution because of a court order: http://www.microsoft.com/java/ http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/VM.htm You can download Microsoft Virtual Machine from he http://www.biologylab.awlonline.com/ms_javavm.php You can download Sun Java he http://java.sun.com/getjava/ And a tip from Michel Gallant (MVP Security): Anyone downloading these VM installers should make sure that they are authentic versions, as originally distributed by Microsoft. I am not questioning the integrity of the files on these sites, but only making a suggestion about due-diligence security wise. You should verify the digital signature on these files: Right Click | Properties | Digital Signatures .. --- WinXP and Win9x (msjavwu.exe): ---------- File Version 5.0.3809.0 Signer: Microsoft Corporation Hash (SHA-1 Thumbprint): 282D 9806 C3DF 7345 929F 64F5 895E F2EA 4AC2 9302 --- Win2000 (Q810030_W2K.exe): ----------- File Version 5.3.10.0 Signer: Microsoft Windows 2000 Publisher Hash (SHA-1 Thumbprint): B42E 4175 6327 473A 45C1 8077 CF2B B314 51E4 D1C3 -- Jupiter Jones An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...oups/setup.asp Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit.
