Default Media Detection in Progress... BLUE SCREENS

I am having problems with the "Media Detection" screens. I have
PowerDVD installed (due to sound issues) and whenever I insert a disk
it starts playing in PowerDVD before the media detection screens go
away. Is there a way to disable them? The computer starts PowerDVD (I
selected PowerDVD to play it as the default AutoPlay option, which I
want) before the media detection is done. This is getting to be a pain
in the neck. Please advise.
