Performance and Maintenance?
I have WinXP SP1 with all updates.
Recently, I have been reading this newsgroup and have been following various instructions just to see how they work. I'm not making any changes because my computer always seems to be running smooth. But I have noticed that many posters are telling others to go to "Control Panel\Performance and Maintenance" to adjust settings. When I go to "Control Panel", "Performance and Maintenance" isn't there. I did some poking around and went to "My Computer\Properties" and choose "Advanced" and then "Performance Options". I then selected "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer" and then went back to "Control Panel". I then had to switch to "Category View" and that's when I saw "Performance and Maintenance". I normally have my desktop set to "Windows Classic View" and so is my start menu. Should I be seeing a "Performance and Maintenance" icon in "Control Panel" while using "Windows Classic View"? Thanks, Ken |

Performance and Maintenance?
I do believe you answered your own question.
Nothing is amiss, you do not 'see' "Performance and Maintenance" in classic view, only category view. You still can get everything from classic view, just differently --- User choice --- some like, some don't Bob M. "Ken McDonald" m wrote in message ... I have WinXP SP1 with all updates. Performance and Maintenance?
Thanks for the quick response. I just wanted to make sure. I wonder if it
may be better to instruct others in a way that everyone can get to the same place no matter what "View" they have. However, it wasn't too much trouble to change things to see what others are talking about and I learned something in the process. Thanks, Ken McDonald "Bob M." wrote in message ... Performance and Maintenance?
Okay, let me try this. Where do I go to choose "Display as a link"?
I understand that I can choose to have "Control Panel" expand in the Start Menu, but how does that affect whether or not I can see "Performance and Maintenance" on "Control Panel"? All I need to do is choose "Use common tasks in folders" under "System Properties\Advanced\Performance Options\Visual Effects" and then "Switch to Category View" on the "Control Panel" window. It doesn't matter if I have "Expand Control Panel in Start Menu" chosen. Even though it expands when I hover the mouse curser over "Control Panel" in the "Start Menu", I can still double click it. It's very possible that I have misunderstood something, so please bear with me. I don't think you or Kelly understood that the reason why I didn't see "Performance and Maintenance" originally, is because I didn't have "Use common tasks in folders" chosen. I understand that it's also necessary to have "Switch to Category View" chosen too, but there is no option for that if "UCTIF" isn't selected. Thanks, Ken McDonald "David Candy" wrote in message ... Goodness. If I have created a mountain out of a molehill, please accept my
apology. That is the last thing I want to do. You are correct David, I don't have a problem with my computer. The procedure that I followed wouldn't work and that's what concerned me.
