Default urgent help needed with xp diagnostic/maintenence issue , help !

Hi all,
Ive been having sporadic problems whereby my so jumps back to my
homepage when I try to go to a URL. I checked for spyware AND viruses
with AdAware and Spybot , and NortonAV 04 for xp.

Someone knowledgeable suggested i use the xp disc and try to get it to go in
and find and
correct the OS problem using a maintenence/diagnostic mode.

Does anyone know how to do this?
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Sounds like they were figuring either a checkdsk/ r (this is a checkdisk
repair) or a repair of the operating system. To do this, you could follow
one of these articles:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;307654 (How to
install and use the recovery console)

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;315341 (How to
Perform an In-place upgrade-reinstallation of windows xp)
