Default Hate CCleaner !

It locks the poopup in the lower right hand corner of the screen and
will not let me drag it.

Rant over.

More like "Non-descript derogatory blurb over ... for now."

Why do you need a popup of CCleaner readily available but occupying
screen realestate?

I'm using the free version of CCleaner. There is no "poopup" in the
lower right hand corner of the screen, so there's nothing there for me
to drag [of something undefined from somewhere also undefined]. "Drag
to drop [something] to commit [an undefined action]" must be part of
their payware version.

https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/cclean...ucing-ccleaner

I saw no mention of a drag-n-drop container object into which you could
drag files to delete them (if that's what that object does since you
didn't say).

I've never found anything of the payware version that I need or want. I
don't even want the real-time monitoring in their payware version since
that devolves to nagging about cleanup. Scheduled cleaning doesn't
require a payware version: you can define an event in Task Scheduler
that runs "ccleaner.exe /auto" (and the same for a shortcut to initiate
a cleanup). I've never needed the auto-update feature since I prefer to
schedule if and when I do updates to ANY software, including the OS, and
only after preparing for the updates (by saving backup images). And now
that Avast has degenerated CCleaner into adware (a tracking cookie that
CCleaner will list but not delete, puking out ads when you run it, and
bundling Avast in the CCleaner installer), I want automated updates even
less. I'm sticking with version 5.40 which was released before Avast
started modifying CCleaner into adware. Their Plus version has even
less appeal: all the extra features are from their other free products
(defrag - Defraggler, file recover - Recuva, hardware inventory -
Speccy). As for support, I end up being my own sysadmin, and I can use
peer support in their forums.

Use BleachBit and/or Wise disk/registry cleaner.
CCleaner is not trustworthy. Not since they deliberately
loaded a trojan in the program.

Old news

https://blog.talosintelligence.com/2...s-malware.html

Almost a year gone by and Avast has not pointed fingers at
anyone. Maybe they're waiting for someone to die so they can use them
as scapegoats. Please don't try to convince me that Avast was unable
to detect who planted the malware. They have full access to both the
Piriform and the Avast servers and all the logs. No security company
is that incompetent.

I've used Ccleaner for nearly 10 years with absolutely no problems.
This on XP and Windows 7.

Lucky you. You missed the trojan version(s).

Though I read somewhere that ALL recent versions are malware
(adware is malware).

Let me guess, you didn't install those either ?

Lucky, lucky you.

An update:

https://www.ghacks.net/2018/08/01/cc...-dont-install/

//It is nearly impossible to disable the monitoring part of CCleaner
(Active Monitoring), and there are not any privacy settings anymore in
the free version of the program.
While you may go to Options Monitoring to disable "Enable system
monitoring" and "Enable Active Monitoring" there, you will notice that
the monitoring turns itself on again on the next start.//

CCleaner, AKA Crap Cleaner is now worse than the crap it was designed
to remove .....

But, and it is a big but, I don't use Avast as AV.

I don't use ANY resident AV. Nobody would if they read and
understood the TOS.

Learn to use your software before moaning :-)

Untick the Active Monitoring box BUT also go to the Tools\Startup
Windows tab and disable or delete the CCleaner Monitoring entry.
That entry may come back with the next update so you will have to
repeat, but at least it will be gone for now.

Start up entries are just that, they start every time you boot the
computer. Most of them in your windows list are not needed and slow
the boot time down.

Just "uncheck[ing] the Show CCeaner in the windows Notification Area"
isn't disabling or deleting any activity: it just stops the reminder
that it's happening.
