WMP12 - Server Execution Failed
Windows 7HP, 64bit
Windows Media Player 12 Occasionally, I get "Server Execution Failed" when playing Windows Media Player. For instance, using File Explorer, if I navigate to a folder containing audio or video files, I can click on either type file, which opens WMP in Now Playing view, and play them, but once in a while, when clicking on the 'next' file, the circle spins for about 15 seconds, and then the error message appears. I close the message, and click on the same file again, and it plays. This does not seem to happen if I first open WMP, and find the audio/video files in the library, I've tried the Microsoft FixIt tool, which reset WMP to defaults. And I've disabled and stopped Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service (and reboot), Another suggestion I found was: At the command prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press enter. However, before try that, I thought I'd ask if anyone had any other suggestions. TIA |

I also tried numerous fixes, stopping short of reinstalling my OS, and I still get the message, but it seems, less often (may be a figment of my imagination). The "regsrvr32 jscript.dll" did nothing either. I notice that when I use a Windows Play List (a .wpl file), I don't get the error at all- it just goes from one video to the next with just a normal short pause. Go figure, huh? -- SC Tom |

My experience, exactly. Play Lists work fine. However, I don't build playlists for all my media. I like to just surf around my media files, much on external USB hard drives, and click a file using File Explorer, which is what sometimes causes this error. Oh, well. Thanks, Microsoft. Thanks for the reply. |
