How do I remove documents from taskbar in Windows XP?
I'm not talking about the systray where the clock is or the
quicklaunch area near the Start button, but on the taskbar itself. The problem is when I right click and delete the document, the document itself gets deleted (in other words, the shortcut really isn't a shortcut but the document itself that's showing up in the taskbar -- and no, the document isn't open). Thanks. |

The cursor has to be in the leftmost part of the icon space for it to work else all you did was create another shortcut on the desktop. That was frustrating, but at least now that I discovered that thing through numerous trial and errors, it's gone. What a relief! Thanks. |

How do I remove documents from taskbar in Windows XP?
I must have a wildly different setup or be misunderstanding something here -
I don't get the option to delete when I right--click a document in the Task Bar, nor can I drag an entry there on to the desktop...! "Peter Foldes" wrote in message ... I am glad it worked for you. It's also a mystery to me. The only thing I ever see in the main section of my taskbar are buttons representing open documents. The buttons disapear when I close the corresponding document, leaving any saved image of the document, application that opens it AND any shortcuts to the application on the hard drive. The shortcuts in the Quick Launch section are like shortcuts on the desktop and can be dragged back and forth between those locations. As always deleting a shortcut doesn't delete the application itself. Clicking icons in the Links section opens a web page in the default browser. The web page can be on a remopte computer or on my computer's hard drive. Deleting the link leaves the web page where it was, basicly it's the equivalent to a browser favorite/bookmark. Behavioue of the icons in the notification area (where the time is displayed) is dependent on the coding of the application that put them there. Some have "exit/close" on their context menu. Others just remain until I otherwise close the associated application. |

How do I remove documents from taskbar in Windows XP?
.....nope! That doesn't change it for me - still no option to delete, and
can't drag to desktop. That would be utterly new XP behaviour to me! This is the "actual" taskbar, isn't it? - the main strip, and not items in the Quick Launch toolbar, per the OP. (Sorry to be taking this one off on a bit of a tangent.) "Peter Foldes" wrote in message ... Unlock your Taskbar.
