Default 2Wire151 What router?

Neighbor has a router that scans as 2Wire151. What router is that?

I want to buy one since it is so powerful it is just as "loud" as the
one in my home.

Is there some way to scan it and get the router model?

I do not want access. I just to know what it is.

Possibly AT&T

The default for AT&T is 2WireXXX

Some routers are "retail" and some are "OEM".

When an ISP provides rental equipment to customers,
the devices tend to be locked down. Password protection
is multi-level, and locks out at least one level which
holds the ISP setup.

The "2wirexxx" could be a standard rental device, intended
as a POP (point of presence), like a replacement for
4G communications with Wifi instead. It provides a means
for authorized customers to connect to (some) Wifi device
for their mobile communications needs. And it offloads the
4G cell site.

If you can figure out what ISP is providing the "2wirexxx",
you could look up the various model options they list, for
more details.

*******

A retail router, the users are more likely to use a different
SSID, like "Sam's router" or similar. Retail routers would
be completely unlocked, and the model numbers would be
documented on the manufacturer web site.

The OEM boxes, may not be documented on public sites, in a
way that is useful for a home user.

I actually own an ADSL modem/router which was intended for
ISP usage, but is unlocked. And frankly, the interface
on it sucks. The router can be programed with "allow" or
"deny" type filter rules, but it requires uploading a
text file with the details. A totally primitive solution.
I turned the router portion off, and just run the ADSL
in bridged mode. And use a regular retail router for the
rest of it.

*******

If you want range data, try a review site.

The site has summary charts. But is also has separate review articles.

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wirel...-asus-rt-ac68u

*******

They also have tutorials, explaining how your neighbors
are shooting your Wifi performance in the foot.

Ahem, wouldn't it be easier just to ask the neighbor?

which you posted.

And let me add to Vanguard's reply: do *not* multipost! Doing so just
fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup doesn't
always get to see answers from others in another newsgroup. And for
those who read all the newsgroups the message is multiposted to, they
see the message multiple times instead of once (they would see it only
once if you correctly crossposted instead). This wastes everyone's
time, and gets you poorer help than you should get.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup, please
do so by crossposting -- sending a single message simultaneously to
multiple newsgroups (but only to a *few* related newsgroups).

Yes, if he knew which neighbor it was (he probably doesn't) and if he
was on friendly terms with him.

There are many things that affect the signal strength of a router. Are
you sure your neighbor's router is so much stronger than yours, or is it
the placement of your router, the placement of your computer, compared
to the placement of your neighbor's router and your computer.

ie is your neighbors router on the other side of two wood walls, and
yours is on the other side of your house with the stove, air
conditioner, the refrigerator, and a fuse box between you and the router?

This is Usenet, That happens to all of us :-)

As for multiposting versus crossposting, what you got was top-notch
advice.
