Migrating XP to a new HD
Hi all,
I have installed a new HD into my system and now I want to move my old system partition to the new drive. I want to use if possible only Microsoft tools for that purpose. Maybe XP Backup is not only able to recover a totally dead partition but also move a system/boot partition to another location? If yes please tell me how. Thanks Old drives (which I want to remove from my computer afterwards): 10GB C: - boot, system, program files 40GB D: - data New drive (gonna be the only HD inside my comp): 160GB - 14GiB none yet: - boot, system, program files - 135GiB G: - data So far I have copied the contents of D: onto G: and am now about to make a backup of C: to G:\backup.bkr selecting C: and "system state"... But after that? howto go on? |

You will have to use a third party software such as Norton Ghost to clone
the new hard drive. Most new drives come with software to do this. -- Steve C. Ray wrote in message ... Migrating XP to a new HD
Damn! Really?
checks http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/, sees the price $69.95, cleans his eyes, looks again: still $69.95, thinks: "Hm, paying $70 for something I will use only once? Sure, I'm a stupid moron!" |

Maxtor has MaxBlast 3 which also allows you to do the Disk to Disk copy. It
is free. WD also has such a utility. BTW: Ghost allows you to create a series of image files of your hard drive. Then, you can burn these images to CDs and have your own custom Recovery Disks. Faster to set up XP to your liking if you already have it the way you like!!!! Y. wrote in message ... Damn!
