Automatic Windows updates sometime trickle in because they are using BITS
(Background Intelligent Transfer Service), which tries to use very little of your internet bandwidth. Why not go to www.microsoft.com and choose to do an update, on the web? Click on 'Security and Updates' and then click on 'Microsoft Update,' and follow the prompts. Updates would happen faster that way, and you will likely see the little yellow shield vanish when all updates are completed. You can always instruct Windows to notify you when updates are available instead of downloading them automatically. When they are available a similar notification will show up on the systray. Just follow the instructions in the first paragraph to download them. Lately I've found manual downloading of security updates to be glacially
slow. That might be the reason. |
