Best to image your system, do a reformat, and clean
install. Upgrades can be less satisfactory because of
all the junk left behing from the earlier OS. With a
fresh install you also start off with a clean registry.
Choose a decent backup utility, back up a small folder,
then restore it, so you know that your backup and
restore works.
