Newsreader in Win 7
Since Win 7 made me lose my news reader, as previously available in Outlook
Express, I am looking for a simple newsreader. I only use it to read a few newsgroups and I am using a free news server (Eternal September). I am not into heavy downloading of binaries. This must be a common problem with the advent of Win 7. Would someone have suggestion how to fill this void? Thank you. -- Walter www.rationality.net - |

Would someone have suggestion how to fill this void? Thank you. Thunderbird. There is a short learning curve and the screens are different, but after 10 years on OE and OE with QuoteFix, I really like Thunderbird. You will have to go to the View menu to have the pages sorted the way we were used to in OE. At ViewSort, select As Received, then Descending, then Threaded. The way you will know if there are threads with new posts is that the thread title will be underlined. If you have posted a reply to a thread, there will be a small arrow just to the right of the thread title. When you filter a poster, Thunderbird does not delete all that posters crap, you just have to watch if fade away. Easiest way to filter a troll is open one of their posts, in the header information Right Click, then select Create Filter From Message. When you set up an account, you will not be prompted for a user name and password until you select and try to download your first NG, at least I think it's that far into the process. Thunderbird has a built in spell check that's much better than OE. Good luck. -- "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." I still use Forte's Agent http://www.forteinc.com/ for newsgroup reading (and stick with Thunderbird for email) but I don't think there is a free version of Agent anymore. |

Summaries he http://www.newsreaders.com/win/clients.html I have only ever found 2 proper offline news readers: Forte Agent http://www.forteinc.com/main/homepage.php XanaNews (which I use): http://xananews.techtips.com.br/ XanaNews uses colours to indicate activity in a thread you are participating in so it's easy to spot new posts in those threads. -- Jeff Gaines Dorset UK That's an amazing invention but who would ever want to use one of them?
