I have build 10074 in a virtual machine and though it's still working I
can no longer get any updates. There was an error code I Googled but all
it said was possible driver problem but with the drivers I have I've
gotten updates previously with no problems.

Also using 10162 on real h/w and updating presently to 10532

I may end up just deleting the vm installion

Thanks, if I can't update it within the next few days I'm going to
delete it entirely. Win10 works way better on real hardware so I don't
really need to use the virtual install.

It sounds like your "10532 on real hardware", that's a Windows Insider install ?
I didn't think Windows Upgrade (GWX) people were off 10240 yet.

If that is the case, what are the chances of registering the 10074 VM OS
as part of the Insider program, using the same MSA you used for the 10532
machine ? It would change your account from a Local Account to an MSA,
meaning a more painful password entry at startup. And file sharing would
likely be a bit screwed up, as you'd need to create yet another account
for file sharing purposes. That's what I ended up doing for my Windows Insider
install (the only Win10 I've got). I'm thinking this would not be a
"new" user added to the Insider program, but just a new install under
a user (MSA) you already created. I don't know if the Insider program
supports this or not, but since the 10074 tent will fold soon, there's
nothing to lose.

That's how I bootstrapped myself into the Insider program is by
having an old enough install to still have it qualify as Insider
material. The attempt to register from there, worked.

You'll get upgraded to 10532 or whatever.

Both of the installations are from the Windows Insider program and after
rebooting my Virtual Machine I see there had been one pending update
which I have now applied and the rest of the updates are now coming. I
had rebooted several times but the last one did it.

thanks

Update to a newer build never did complete, faster to just download the
latest avail iso and re-install. I decided I do want to keep a VM install.
