Powershell ISE has docs for modules built in, just need data
visualization from there, assuming powershell doesn't have it or that
you want it

In article ,
says...
I need to know inwards & outwards traffic.

Task manager: Performance: Network :
Right click on the graph and choose "View network details"
It gives running totals of network activity.

The Windows ones I could find so far, don't give
a breakdown on transmit and receive. Just a "total"
traffic. Some ISPs only charge for Receive and
Transmit doesn't count towards your cap (on asymmetric
services, where the TOS says you're not supposed
to run servers :-) ).

https://www.howtogeek.com/224170/how...in-windows-10/

Applications that record traffic, don't report the
program name. Those programs are only interested in
IP addresses. Things like TCPView, Wireshark, WinPCAP.

The Windows Firewall is interested in which program
is sending stuff, but counting bytes isn't in its
job description.

Perfmon snap-in, just doesn't have sufficient counters
for this either. You might be able to monitor a whole
LAN connector, TX and RX, but knowing which program did
it, isn't available in the list that I could see.

There must be a way to do this out there somewhere,
but I didn't find it on Page 1 of my search results.

The Windows "Resource Monitor" shows 'send bytes/second'
and 'receive bytes/second' separately, down to a process level.

1) On Task Manager, select the "Performance" tab.
2) At the bottom, click "Open Resource Monitor".
You may be asked to provide Administrator credentials.
3) When the "Resource Monitor" window appears, select its
"Network" tab.
4) In the "Processes with Network Activity" pane, the columns are
* Image
* PID
* Send (B/sec)
* Receive (B/sec)
* Total (B/sec)

You might search for a copy of NetWorx 5.5.5.

I think Wireshark is considered the best but I find
it overly complex. This is a very simple and easy-to-use
option:

https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/smsniff.html

SmartSniff
It says it supports up to Win8, so probably Win10
is fine. It just lists packets and if you select one
you can see the contnt in the lower window. Though
with most traffic going https these days, that won't
tell you much.

For aggregate transmit and receive I use FreeMeter. It shows inbound and
outbound traffic in different colors in a moving bar graph, but no detail.
It has some other nice utilities included.

Resource Monitor will show you individual process usage, both transmit and
receive, but it is sometimes hard to watch since processes pop up and then
drop out, so the display is constantly moving up and down. Also, a lot of
the processes are running under srvmon, so you need to use Process Monitor
to find out what is actually running.

One section of Resource Monitor will actually showthe image name and PID of
every link in use, the host IP address and port, and the far end IP address
and port, along with Packets Lost and Latency in ms.

Thanks for the reminder :-)

I *completely* forgot about that one.

The bytes per second on that, uses filtering to give "smooth"
bandwidth numbers, so frequently, when a process has stopped
sending, it still lists a declining sequence of numbers.

Now, how can we get a monthly total from that ?

You know they have counters down there, and how
do we get at them ? Windows is like a "loot box"
for this stuff. Can't find the key.

If you only need one number, ok two numbers,
and don't care who or why the traffic...
There's a windows sidebar gadget that gives you a
real-time graph of what's going on. And it creates/accesses
a html file that can give you data from the beginning of time.

Sidebar was removed from win10 for security reasons.
Whatever that means.
Anyhoo, network meter is part of the 8gadgetpack.net package
