Will XP games work in Win 7??

My XP games work just fine, and only one had to be installed with the XP
compatability feature. Even though I like Win7, I only ended up with it
because I bought a new computer. If you're fine with XP, stay with it until
you need a new computer. I can't see any benefit to switching. (I felt
I'd never owned a computer for the first couple of days until I got used to
it.)

I wouldn't switch to Win7 just to switch. Wait 'til you need a new
computer.

Don't switch just for the sake of it.
I only had card games installed in XP, some (fairly ancient) of those no
longer work in Windows 7, which is a shame, but there are worse things in
life :-)

Nobody can answer such a question accurately. Just as with other types
of programs, some might run, and others might not.

However, bear in mind that the great majority of programs that work
under Windows XP will also work under Windows 7.

Here's my standard answer to questions like this:

My view is that you're going about this backward. A change of
operating system should be driven by need, not just because there is a
new version available. Are you having a problem with Windows XP that
you expect Windows 7 to solve? Do you have or expect to get new
hardware or software that is supported in Windows 7, but not in XP? Is
there some new feature in Windows 7 that you need or yearn for? Does
your job require you have skills in Windows 7? Are you a computer
hobbyist who enjoys playing with whatever is newest?

If the answer to one or more of those questions is yes (and your
hardware is adequate for Windows 7), then you should get Windows 7.
Otherwise most people should stick with what they have. There is
*always* a learning curve and a potential for problems when you take a
step as big as this one, regardless of how wonderful whatever you're
contemplating moving to is. Sooner or later you'll have to upgrade (to
Windows 7 or its successor) because you'll want support for hardware
or software that you can't get in XP, but don't rush it.

I say all the above despite the fact that I'm a big Windows 7 fan. I
think it's the best and most stable of all versions of Windows.

Like others said, don't switch just for the sake of switching. The only
games I can't get to run are the really old ones (like the original Tetris)
but I'm also running the x64 version of W7. Everything else is just fine,
and IMO W7's Compatibility Mode is far superior to XP's.

Ditto............Dick M. It takes a while to get accustomed to,
like new women and new OS's, but I am getting comfortable with it after 2
months.

Thanks, everyone for your comments. I have no real need for W7 except
that I just wanted the latest OS. XP really works fine with me and I
will probably just keep things as is until I get a new computer a few
years down the road. Who knows what the OS will be by then?

I too prefer the Xp-style of graphics on the playing cards.
You can copy your XP versions of Sol.exe, Freecell.exe etc. to your Win7 machine
and you will also need 'cards.dll' from your XP Windows folder.
The cards.dll needs to be in the same folder as the games exe files.

Haven't tried that, but I don't think the 'new and improved (?)' W7 versions
are as nice as they are in XP.
They're slower too.

I'm happy to report that Hearts, Freecell, Solitaire and Spider are now all
runing perfectly on my Windows 7 machine. Many thanks to Dave-UK for the
advice.

Now if only Outlook Express would import with the same success...
