XP smtp issues
I setup my XP box to run smtp thru IIS. Everything looks good and I have
it setup to be very open for testing. however, I always get above error when tring to send. I could telnet into the localhost port 25. Outlook express can Not send however. Outlook express and the smtp service are on same machine. any clues? Im ready to dump MS smtp and get an opensource smtp service installed. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: '127.0.0.1', Server: '192.168.1.10', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F btw, I have tried swapping and 127.0.0.1 is same as 192.168.1.10 and localhost regards -- Craig |

LOL. Your AV is the culprit. Disable the in and outgoing scanning by uninstalling
your Anti Virus and then re-installing it without the email integration (scanning) option. Do the latter because if you only use the Disable switch it will not work since the option is hooked into the API and will not let go otherwise -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. Why are you answering me? The error the OP posted is concerning his AV which is
scanning . The OP has to remove that option. Installing what you posted is a waste of time, effort and resources on any mail server -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. Why are you answering me? The error the OP posted is concerning his AV which is scanning . The OP has to remove that option. Installing what you posted is a waste of time, effort and resources on any mail server I was replying to the OP who stated his possible interest in installing a FOSS solution to his problem. I gave him a simple, workable solution, one that I personally use. I probably should have told him to install MySQL also. It simplifies the organization of users, etc. He could install fetchmail if he does not have a FQDN and a dedicated IP for receiving mail. By the way, do you know what a mail server is? Using a dedicated PC for sending/receiving/filtering is by far the safest and easiest solution; not only for individual but businesses too. In addition, removing the AV and or firewall only increases the chances that the OP will become a victim of a BOT spreading malicious SPAM or Malware. Your solution is worse then useless. If you do not know how to fix the problem, instructing the OP bypass the issue is an invitation to disaster. Unfortunately, that is a common occurrence in the Microsoft arena. -- Carmel |::::======= |::::======= |=========== |=========== | |

XP smtp issues
Hello All
I believe the AV interference makes sense.. I just need a simple smtp server inside my home network for sending automated emails generated by an application. I will probably just create a vhd/virtual pc and put a barebones copy of windows with smtp on it. sound good?? many thanks! "Carmel" wrote in message ...
