Desktop display properties always go to default not the desired th
I have windows xp home edition. I just installed service pack 3. Whenever I
reboot the computer, my desktop always goes back to the default windows classic theme. I then have to re-apply all my display settings (even the power mode settings) to have the desktop I want. However as soon as I shut down and the reboot another time, the display settings again go back to the default. As you might guess this is getting quite annoying! I thought it might be spyware, a virus or malaware, but I have scanned my computer with many programmes and there is nothing wrong. Would this be a service pack 3 problem? What can I do to stop this annoyance? Thanking you in advance for any help offered. Margot Alnwick |

Desktop display properties always go to default not the desire
Hi Elmo
Thank you for your reply. I tried your suggestion but it did not work. I still have the same problem. I have uninstalled service pack 3, but the same problem occurs. I have tried to follow the directions to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile but I run into another problem. Where it tells you to go to windows explorer, click on tools and go to folder options, click view tab and then click show hidden files and folders. My folder option says do not show hidden files and folders and it is selected and I cannot de-select it. As a result I cannot continue to copy files to new user profile. Do you have any other possible solutions?? Thanks. Margot "Elmo" wrote: Margot Alnwick wrote: I have windows xp home edition. I just installed service pack 3. Folder Options/View Empty - Restore Now Could your system be infected? I think you might need to change policies to allow changes. If you're not infected, maybe some software that's install, such as Nortons, McAfee, (or less likely) Spybot, Adaware, or similar software might be blocking changes.. Run these: Malwarebytes© Corporation http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe SuperAntispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html "Elmo" wrote: Margot Alnwick wrote: I have windows xp home edition. Desktop display properties always go to default not the desire
Hi Elmo
I have scanned my system with malawarebytes, superantispyware, spybot, lavadaware and avast antivirus and there are no infections. If spybot or adaware would block a change would I get notification of the block? Would booting in safe mode allow me to copy files to a new user file? Or do they not get loaded? No, I doubt there'd be a notification; I've seen too many times that a particular software was the cause of a problem, long after everything else had failed. Would booting in safe mode allow me to copy files to a new user file? Or do they not get loaded? Margot That's a good idea; try Safe Mode. I hope it works for you. Use the Administrator account, if that's an option. Here's a search for your problem.. I didn't have time to look through it, Texas Hold'em tonight: http://www.google.com/search?q=%22fo...N&hl=en&tab=gw Margot Alnwick wrote: Hi Elmo Thank you for your reply.
