Try winavi video converter works decent their newest version is still beta so
(free) Make sure your nero is up to date if your fathers dvd player is a sony
they are a little tougher with those two apps you should be in pretty good
shape as far as freeware and instuctions the net is full of them I would
start here if you wanted to do your home work http://www.videohelp.com/ hope
this helps

Thank you Josh3115. I have now downloaded the trial of winavi couldn't find a
completely free one (just my luck lol). I think I will have to try and buy
it. I really want to do some dvd's. Thanks a lot for your help.

hi chrissy..firstly download bitlord(there are others but this is the way i
go) put a shortcut on your desktop. browse for any torrent site ( again i
prefer minninova)(even better browse for " AXXO" hes great for quality),only
dvdrips, click on the torrent u like and it automatically starts downloading
on ur bitlord.when its complete open nero and sorted m8. the more u use
torrent sites the more u learn. There is a much quicker way to download
movies, using newsgroups, but its a bit more complicated.good
luck........p.s. buy nothing m8 go search ur torrent sites u can get just
about anything u need there.
