Default floppy drive (A) is not listed anymore


please help!! i am not familiar with xp, which my dad has,
but know 98 very well...the problem is that somehow his
floppy drive is not listed anymore...it was there as of 2
weeks ago and was functioning properly, listed as drive
A...i havent a clue if he did anything to it, he says he
didnt...what should i do to try to correct the problem? if
it helps his computer is a lexmark originally with win 98
installed, he upgraded to xp shortly after it came
out...thanks for any help you may be able to provide...

1. Check in BIOS to see if the floppy is there.
2. Go to device manager (use the traditional view if you are used to W98) and see if the floppy is
listed. If so, delete it. If necessary do this in safe mode (F8 during boot) and delete *all*
entries.
3. Reboot. XP should recognise new hardware, so tell it to install best driver.
4. If this doesn't work, try booting from the XP CD and doing a repair install.
