I just bought the HP6830 for about $90 and am happy. You can reviews
he http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2468807,00.asp

Note that some people have had problems and give a bad review.

I was happy with the ability to scan multi sheet documents and fax them
right from the printer as it its own fax send and receive capability

I had to replace a printer for home use a few months ago. Went to
Office Depot and got a HP ENVY 5540 series. You can get a User Guide
and all you want to know he

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/...447939/manuals

I'm very satisfied with it. I don't need the wireless feature but it
has it, and much more.

If I ever buy another printer, it'll be a laser.

Ditto. I greatly prefer lasers to inkjets. And I also greatly prefer
separate printers and scanners to combo devices.

I've had my current laser since the beginning of 2013. I think most home
users would be better served by a laser printer versus inkjet.

I've had my current laser since the beginning of 2013.

I got mine (a Samsung CLP315) in April 2009.

My first two printers were dot-matrix, back in 1987-70. Then I went to
a B&W laser and had two or three of those over the years. I then went
to an inkjet, which I hated, and finally switched from that to a color
laser, which is far and away the best printer I've ever had.

I think most home
users would be better served by a laser printer versus inkjet.

Ditto. Not having to worry about clogged inkjets is a giant advantage.
And the cost of ink cartridges is very high.

My wife uses an inexpensive B&W laser by Canon, and it's excellent;
she can use mine if she needs color, which is very rare.

Color lasers cost more than inkjets up front, but with the cost of
inkjet cartridges being so high, a laser's per page cost is much
lower.

I tried refilling my own inkjet cartridges, but it was a mess and a
royal pain in the butt.

Yes, I prefer laser printers too. Toner cartridges cost a lot too, but
they last a long time and no problems with clogged nozzles.

I have a Brother laser printer, which is working well. However, I don't
have experience with other brands. Maybe something else would be better.
I need a networked printer that can be accessed by Linux as well as Windows.

Divide the cost of the toner or inkjet cartridges by the number of
pages they print, and laser toner cartridges cost much less than
inkjet cartridges.

Exactly!

One of the laser printers I used to have was a Brother B&W. It was
inexpensive and mine worked well too.

For high use (and possibly even other use), I think the only way to use
an inkjet is one of the continuous-feed systems.

Laser toner cartridges can also be refilled; there are plenty of guides
out there on how to do so. However, I've never actually spoken to anyone
who has done so, so I don't know how easy/messy/successful it is.

There were a few inkjets in the past, you could
get a tank system for them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous_ink_system

We used to buy refilled toner cartridges at work,
and returned the cartridges to the refiller. That
wasn't dirt cheap, but it was a bit cheaper. There
was no chipping system on the cartridges.

+1 on the Brother laser printer. I have a Brother 2270DW laser that I
use as a network printer. It is very linux friendly: both wired and
wireless. Best part is that the toner cartridges are the cheapest
around, ~$55. I say you can't go wrong with Brother.

My Xerox WorkCentre 6015NI uses 4 toner cartridges, CMYK. In April of
this year I bought an 8-pack, two of each color, for $49.99.

I thought my Brother was a good choice too, but I'm reluctant to say
"you can't go wrong with Brother" since I've had just the one
experience.
