What's the best freeware downloader in 64-bit W7 HPE SP1?

It needs to be able to resume transfers (unreliable Internet
connections), secured connections, etc. I used to use GetRight and Orbit
Downloader, but they are very old now.

I use the extension DownThemAll while using Firefox.

You can configure the number of segments as well as the the number of
concurrent downloads as well as assign a speed limit (throttle) if the
number of downloads interfere with stuff like VOIP.

Yes it has the option to resume downloads.

The preferences (configuration options) are quite extensive.

I forgot, it even has a scheduler for those with restrictive ISP's who
only allow unlimited downloads during specific times.

Take a look at XDM (Extreme Download Manager). A few quirks, but
lightning fast and integrates with just about any browser.
