Default Can't connect to FTP servers with Firewall activited in SP2

Hi.

I'm at the end of my rope on this issue. I am running Windows-XP SP2
edition and with the built-in XP firewall activated I *CANNOT* connect
to FTP servers.

I have tried the following:

- Opening Ports 20/21
- Allowing CUTEFTP.exe and transferengine exe files
- Making sure "use passive ftp" was unchecked in Internet Explorer
- Cannot use cmd line "ftp" program to connect anywhere
- Switched to PASV mode in CuteFTP

I have tried other FTP clients as well, so it is obvious CUTEFTP is not
the issue.

I would appreciate it if anyone could help,
Thanks

Perhaps the troubleshooting information in this article may help:

You may not be able to open a project when you try to connect to a remote Windows XP
Service Pack 2-based computer by using the AutoCAD FTP service
http://support.microsoft.com/default...t=windowsxpsp2

Here's how to correct the problem after opening Port 21 via the
SP2 firewall Exceptions tab:

1. Open Internet Explorer Tools Internet Options Advanced tab

2. Uncheck the box: "Use passive FTP (for firewall & DSL modem capability)

Download and install a different firewall, one that's configurable.
Try either Zone Alarm or Sygate (both free in the personal edition)
