... I have news for you -- most important problems in computer science were solved decades ago. I don't know about decades but that's certainly true. There are many aspects of Vista that mirror other OS's. But that goes both ways. |

I don't know about decades but that's certainly true. There are many
aspects of Vista that mirror other OS's. But that goes both ways. Well at least we can agree on something... I was however expecting to see more innovation and less imitation with Vista. When I heard they were going to be using the GPU, I expected some 3D effects to be present in the OS. At the very least, the thing should be able to render a 3D scene as a wallpaper instead of just using flat bitmaps (or movies as in Dreamscene). It should have support for 3D icons. I should be able to rotate windows about the X and Y axis. Yes these things are just eye candy, but they need a bit more 'wow factor' then they currently have. As it stands, the only place where I see any 3D effect is with Flip3D which I find utterly useless. ----------------------------------------------------------- Posted using Android Newsgroup Downloader: .... http://www.sb-software.com/android ----------------------------------------------------------- |

Other people love it. You say you want to see less mirroring. Two things: 1. I want to see more mirroring! As useless as Flip3D is, I'd rather use Apples solution. One click show all windows. Then move to the window you want and release. We screamed for this during the beta. No go! 2. What about Shadow Copy? There's a feature not mirrored from anyone that was ported over from W2K3. Very useful! We had Shadow Copy implemented on our storage servers and the users LOVED IT! I was no longer hassled with file restores. Then we switched to a Linux based files store (one from many). Bye-bye Shadow Copy! Our users where ****ed! But we had no choice, we needed a more Mac friendly solution. Now there's MS Storage Server so YES, we're kicking ourselves! |

I've never seen apple's solution, but it sounds like a good idea. 2. What about Shadow Copy? There's a feature not mirrored from anyone that was ported over from W2K3. Very useful! We had Shadow Copy implemented on I think I've been using it on a NetApp server for a very long time... Of all the additional features of Vista, I think shadow copy looks the most useful. Of course, the only time I wanted to use it was on my d: drive, which wasn't shadow-copied by default, and hence I didn't get a chance to use the feature. So now we'll have to wait until I need it again.... ----------------------------------------------------------- Posted using Android Newsgroup Downloader: .... http://www.sb-software.com/android ----------------------------------------------------------- |
