MsMpEng sucks up 1/2 my CPU after startup
MsMpEng is really sucking up the CPU cycles for quite a while after startup.
Now, it's down to 0 cycles, per Windows Task Manager, but it was staying at about 50% on my dual core processor for a long time. I understand it's a Defender program - Right? How do I get to a Defender control page where I can customize Defendeer? Does it run on a schedule? Can I change the schedule so it will run when I'm asleep? Any other idea what's causing MsMpEng to run wild like that? I'd really appreciate some help. If this isn't the place to post this query please let me know what forum I should post it under. Thanks much, Mike |

You're right, it's really not the right place, and there are two
possibilities for having that process running: If you have OneCare Live installed: http://forums.microsoft.com/windowso....aspx?siteid=2 If you only have Windows Defender installed: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...&lang=en&cr=US -- Regards, Dave "Mike" wrote: MsMpEng is really sucking up the CPU cycles for quite a while after startup.
