Recent Items not cycling
It seems as though Recent Items doesn't cycle items. For example if i
write say a abcde.docx and save it, that file name does not appear in Recent Items. What's up? |

I understood him - he means the "Recent" which appears (for some people; others have turned it off/never turned it on) in the Start menu. KenW I think the answer may be that you created abcde.docx by opening Word, creating the text, then saving, giving a filename when Word prompted you. I think to appear in Recent, you have to have clicked on the file from explorer. -- J. P. Gilliver. In this example, Word keeps a recent items, and there is a control for the number of items. You could set the recent items to 0, save and exit. Then enter the program again, and set the recent items to a finite number larger than zero. Perhaps that will make the recent items work again. http://www.howtogeek.com/141490/how-...-in-word-2013/ There are recent items all over the place on the computer, so you need to be a bit more specific when asking questions of this nature. Like, where are you seeing this list, what is the version of Word (if the feature is inside Word), or you're looking at a list of recent items somewhere else (LibreOffice maybe) ? Paul |

That's what I thought, but of course he could mean something else, as Ken1943 and Paul both think. Paul Without stating an application that has a MRU (most recently used) list, I have to assume the OP is discussing the Start menu's MRU (Start - Recent Items in right panel). To clear that you can right-click on Recent Items, or you could use a utility, like CCleaner, to run manually or schedule to run at specific times or upon some events. Because she is looking at it (to say it isn't updating) then it has not been removed (right-click Start button, Properties, Start menu tab, Customize button, checkbox for Recent Items). The OP should also look there to make sure "Number of recent items to display in Jump Lists" (the right-side Start menu panel) is configured to something other than zero so it will actually hold an MRU list of recently opened docs. |

Oh, "write say a abcde.docx" indicates the OP was using Word so maybe that is the MRU she is looking for or at. Where is the MRU list in MS Word depends on the version of the product. Similarly, where is the configuration setting in MS Word that specifies how many entries to retain in the MRU depends on the version of that product. In MS Word 2013, the MRU is presented when you first load the program (left pane under Recent section) or under the File - Open menu when you have a doc already loaded. The config settings for how many entries are in the Recent list is under Word Options - Advanced - Display section - Show this number of Recent Documents. Other versions of MS Word have the MRU and its config setting elsewhere. If the OP is using a cleaning tool then it could be wiping the MRU lists in MS Word, many other apps, and in Windows. |

Recent Items not cycling
Ah, saw the OP's post about 16 minutes before my reply (my client
refreshes and retrieves new posts at 10-minute intervals). So it's Word 2007's MRU list (Recent docs). This describes where to configure how many items to show in the Recent list: http://www.mohantabdar.com.np/how-to...el-powerpoint/ Make sure it isn't zero. Clicking the Office button at the top right corner of Word's window shows the File menu and a right-side panel listing the Recent docs. I don't have Word 2007 to see what is the "button in the lower left [of Word's window]". From the undersized video of Word 2007 shown at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXpQ4v3WTkY (mute the sound to avoid the noise, there's no dialogue), I don't see a bottom left button for Recent docs, only Page x of y indicator in the status bar and next to that on the right is the Count indicator (# words, # characters, etc). |

(You probably _do_ know there are other recent lists - sometimes called MRU, for most-recently-used; they're inside prog.s, usually under "File", and are only for files opened by that program. [Some prog.s, such as recent versions of Word, have rather more sophisticated "recent" lists; older prog.s just have a few under "File", addressed by the digits 1, 2, 3, etc.]) Word 2007. My first reply actually did assume she meant the Start menu's Recent docs list (but didn't detail how to find the setting for how many items to keep in the list). Then it looked like she meant a MRU in MS Word. So we really do not know which MRU with which she is having a problem. |
