Default External Hard Drives

Why do I get an error message when i try to transfer a windows backup file
from my computer to an external hard drive? Its says there is no free disk
space. I have defraged the drive. It says it has 426GB free and the files is
27GB this error only pops-up when i try to copy the file onto it.

Most external hard drives are formatted with FAT32, which supports a
maximum file size of 4 GB.

Reformat the drive using the NTFS file system, fat32 only supports file
sizes up to 4GB.
