Phantom 1394 Network Adapter

Thanks for the feedback Phoenix, Fritz and Roger. My computer actually doesn't have integrated firewire support (it came out right after I purchased my system) and until yesterday I had never noticed this adapter. I am frequently checking/configuring network settings, etc. so I definitely would have recognized it if it was there in the past. I think one of you may have hit it on the head when suggesting that a recent Microsoft Update may have installed the drivers. I ran the latest automatic update yesterday and this was the same time that I first noticed the device. I will follow your suggestions and simply disable it. Thanks. I'd be surprised that an update would enable the Networking Adapter if your motherboard doesn't have it. Are you absolutely sure that it's not an on-board device? Regards Bill |

Phantom 1394 Network Adapter
There is an onboard device that uses an Intel Pro chipset
but it has always been recognized as an Intel Pro adapter without adding a 1394 device/driver. All I can say is it has never been there before (for 2 years since I purchased the system) and it just appeared. Other than adding a video capture board, the only recent change I made was installing the latest automatic updates. Let me know if you can think of anything else. Thanks. -----Original Message----- On Wed, 14 Apr 2004 09:01:01 -0700, Stewart wrote: Thanks for the feedback Phoenix, Fritz and Roger. Phantom 1394 Network Adapter
IEEE 1394 is your firewire card.
"Stewart" wrote in message ... This recently appeared under network connections but I cannot determine what program is using this. I attempted to disable and uninstall the driver but XP loaded it again as a new device. The digital signer listed for the driver is "Microsoft Windows XP Publisher" but I can't imagine what Publisher would need a connection for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Thanks. -----Original Message----- XP has supported Tcp/Ip over 1394 since its initial release, and it configures 1394 devices with network connectoids during install. If you have not tried tying to XPs together with a firewire you will be surprised at how simple and useful it can be. When not desired, just set the connectoid to disabled. -- Roger Abell Microsoft MVP (Windows Server System: Security) MCSE (W2k3,W2k,Nt4) MCDBA "Stewart" wrote in message ...
