Default Location of Gmail files

I can't locate the directory that contains all my Gmail files. No luck with
Google or a search through directories with a file manager (Total
Commander). Anyone know? I'm referring to the message, letter, memo, etc.
files.

TIA

If you are reading your Gmail messages in your web browser, the files
are on Gmail's servers and not on your own computer.

If you are reading your Gmail messages in an email program such as
Thunderbird, Outlook Express, or Outlook, the location of the files
depends on which email client you are using. You have not told us
which.

Oh, it's a secret local e-mail program. Okay. Come on back when you
decide to tell us which e-mail program you are using.

Maybe the messages aren't stored as separate files, but inside a
database file. Or you're using IMAP so the client just shows what is up
on the server (unless you configured your local e-mail program to
locally store your IMAP folders). Where the messages are store depends
on the e-mail program, and how you configured it.

If you are using for e-mail the same program you used here as your NNTP
client, Xnews, does that even do e-mail?

If you are using Google's webmail client, you don't get any files to
store locally. You're using a web browser to view what messages are
stored online in your account.
