Default NETGEAR MR314 Router

I have been unable to get video conferencing to work
using MSN Messager 5.0

Looks like the issues could be that my router MR 314
(NETGEAR) in non-UPnP compliant. Does anyone know for
sure if this is the issue? If so, can I manually
configure the router port configuration to that I can run
video/audio?

I have used the audio tunin wizard and I get a video
picture during the setup. It is when I try to connect to
either another computer on my network or to a friend's
computer (also using XP) that I get no picture on my
screen or on the other side. Web camera is the SONY PCGA-
UVC10 running of a Sony Vaio Z1A.

Last point, i can broacast just fine using Yahoo
Messanger!

thanks for the help

Greetings Paul,

Yes, the MR314 does not support Universal Plug and Play -- without it, you won't be able to
establish a voice/video conversation (even if you open and forward every single port).

Yahoo Messenger is completely different, as it goes through Yahoo's servers, it's not a
direct connection from you to your contact (which is what Messenger voice/video does).
However, Logitech recently released a similar Webcam support just like Yahoo's for MSN
Messenger 5, see he
http://messenger.msn.com/support/webcam.asp

As well, you may be able to get around the no-UPnP problem, and use the "real" Messenger
voice/video by using ENat for Messenger:

Default NETGEAR MR314 Router

Greetings Jonathan,

I have to disagree with Jonathan Kay. I am sorry!

Yahoo messenger is working by sending Text/Voice/Video
From Client to CLient (Like Messenger). And not through A
server Like you said.!! But The real
difference and benefit is that It can use and actually use
Port 80 (Browser Port) for Bi-Directional Data
Transmission/recieving In case The Other ports (Above
1024) are blocked.!! By doing this It can work across NAT
or Firewalls Without bothering with UPP!!
I CANNOt UNDERSTAND WHY MICROSOFT DID NOT USE SUCH
CAPABILITY TO OVERCOME NAT/FIREWLL .
Also , The Video for messenger works only for XP.
The same complain I have Also for Microsoft Portrait!
And even for the "Greenwich" Beta release.
I have no Ieda Why One have to pay ENat for something
that one can get for free from Yahoo or From Microsoft
I They Would change Their programs!

Gil
