Default Video conversations disconnect after a few seconds

Thanks Jonathan,

The final answer was to uninstall Zone Alarm, the
TrueVector component was still operating even though I
wasn't starting it at all.

My only problem now is I would prefer to use a better
firewall than the WindowsXP one, but I guess that can
wait. At least I can now hold video conversations.

Regards.

Richard

Greetings Richard,

Usually this behavior caused by either you or your

contact updating your audio drivers, and
Messenger not recognizing the change. To fix this, both

you and your contact should go
through the Audio Tuning Wizard again -- to do so, open

the main Messenger window, click the
Tools menu, then Audio Tuning Wizard and go through the

wizard again.

Trying to connect to another Windows XP user. We both
have Messenger 4.7. Connection is OK, remote

assistance
works but voice conversations start and then

immediately
terminate. It just says connection terminated. I have
an ADSL connection and use the Windows XP firewall, the
other end is a 56K modem also with XP firewall. We

have
tried turning both firewalls off without success. Is
there any diagnostics I can turn on, or any clues as to
why it might not work. I have communicated with other
modem users successfully in the past.

Hi Richard,

Yes, ZoneAlarm is well known for blocking voice/video when it's supposedly "disabled".

Greetings Brian,

How exactly is it "not working"? If you go through the Audio (and Video) Tuning Wizard, are
you able to go through the wizard without any errors? If you are seeing an error, what is
it?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by your camera working AIM -- I wasn't aware AIM had any
video support.

Keep in mind most of these issues are related to either drivers (which would be a Logitech
problem) or networks on either your side (or your contacts), both of which aren't related to
Microsoft.

I just installed a Logitech Clicksmart 420 camera and could not get it to
work with Windows messenger or MSN messenger. I've read thru these posts and
others and it seems that alot of people are having similar problems. Like
others, my camera works ok in other applications such as aol aim. Sounds
like video chat problem with the messenger products. That is , they don't do
what they are advertised to do. As users, a.k.a. paying customers, it's not
our job to hack the problems. How about Microsoft fix the problem for us. If
anybody knows how to make video chat function work let me know.

I am also having this same problem. We both have MSN
messenger 4.7 and the same Logitech camera. I have a
modem and he has DSL. I haven't figured it out yet. But
if you get any clues let me know.
