Well, MSN5, MSN6, Windows Messenger 4.7, Windows Messenger 5.0 all so
confusing.

Since WM 5.0 is now for corporate use only, and WM 4.7 is outdated.

Will MSN6 take its place ?

Will MSN6 be able to use all the features that WM 4.7 without having it
installed ?

WM 4.0 = WM 4.7 = WM 5.0 = WM 6.0 etc.

MSNM 4.0 = MSNM 5.0 = MSNM 6.0 etc.

WM is NOT only for corporate use, I wish that statement would go away. It is
not true.

How the hell would you know?

It seems that Microsoft is neglecting WM and doing more work on MSNM.

PLENTY of new features in MSNM!

I'd like to hear some official statement about this.

I heard there won't be any updates for Windows Messenger until the official
release of the next windows operating system, code named now 'longhorn'. The
new windows messenger should come integrated in it.. I think

Hi Ahmed,

This isn't correct, Windows Messenger 5 is set to be released soon for Windows XP and Windows
2000.

Greetings Caleb,

Erik is exactly correct. Since the split of the Messenger clients (Windows Messenger 4.7 and
MSN Messenger 5), they've become two separate products. MSN Messenger is centered around MSN
technologies (Hotmail, MSN Member Profiles, MSN Mobile, etc.) where Windows Messenger is
centered around Windows technologies (Exchange Server, Greenwich/RTC Server, Windows
Netmeeting, etc.). Both however can make use of Microsoft technologies, like the .NET
Messenger service and .NET Alerts.
