David, a friend of mine has Windows XP Home Edition, and after =

installing
SP1 for Office XP, Auto Insert Notification, and Auto Run for CD's =

stops
working. I looked for a fix for this on the Knowledge base, but to no

hey guys.
Ok so I updated my BIOS and then all of a sudden my CD-rom
and my DVD-rw drives disappeared from Windows XP. So I
downloaded an older BIOS (same one I had before) and
flashed that in. Same problem persisted. The BIOS
recognizes the drives are there and Windows does as well,
it just won't let me access them at all.

I went into the Device Manager and both of the drives had
an error. It was the same on both and read as follows:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this
device."

I've tried uninstalling both drives and then re-installing
but I am getting the same error again and again. Any help
would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
-Andrew
